As “American Idol” makes its season debut this week, one of the past judges is making headlines of her own! Kara DioGuardi, who joined the cast as a judge for seasons eight and nine, announced she and her husband are expecting their first child.
After failed attempts of IVF, DioGuardi and her husband will be welcoming their son via a gestational surrogate. She originally left her position as an “Idol” judge to devote more time building her family. “I wanted a child and there was no way I could get pregnant under the stress of eighteen-hour work days and live TV,” DioGuardi said.
Still unable to conceive on their own, the expectant parents decided to explore alternative methods. “We made a personal decision to try with a surrogate. I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked,” DioGuardi said. She and her husband are eagerly anticipating their son’s arrival, and they’ve already got a name picked out—Greyson James Carrol McCuddy.
DioGaurdi married her husband, Mike McCuddy in 2009. Though this is DioGuardi’s first child, her husband has a teenage daughter from a previous relationship.
