Celebs Support Families with Autism

10 12 2007

Jenny McCarthy and her 5-year-old son, Evan, attended the launch party for kidsLA magazine on Sunday at the Treehouse Social Club in West Hollywood.

McCarthy is seen here with her actress pal Joely Fisher and Fisher's 22 month old daughter, True.

The launch party was a fundraiser for Talk About Curing Autism, which provides information and support to families of children with autism, JustJared.com reports.

McCarthy is the organization's spokesperson. She told CNN about the heartbreaking moment when she learned of Evan's diagnosis when he was 2 years old.

"I just stared at the doctor while remembering all the signs that led up to this moment. I felt each membrane and vein in my heart shattering into a million pieces. Nothing prepared me for this. I couldn't breathe. I wanted it gone. I had been through so much with seizures and psychotic reactions to meds. I looked at the doctor with pleading, tearful eyes, "This can't be. He is very loving and sweet and not anything like 'Rain Man.' "
