US Soccer Captain Expecting
8 01 2008For the first time in her career, the captain of the U.S. women’s national soccer team will have to miss the Olympic Games.
She has good reason, though. Thirty-six-year-old Kristine Lilly is expecting her first child.
Lilly has played in all eight U.S. Women’s World Cup and Olympics teams, but says she will sit out this April's qualifier for the Beijing games. In fact, she will sit out the entire year, but she says she's open to playing again in the future.
Lilly holds the world record for caps and has scored 129 career international goals, second in women’s soccer history to Mia Hamm's 158.
