The Baby Borrowers
26 06 2008The new show on NBC is turning young couples into parents or not so much. There are ten young couples (18-20) who want to live together and to do that they want to have children. The new show Baby Borrowers is a reality show that is designed to show young couples just how it is to be a parent.
Over a 3 week span, the couples are set up in a home, have to get a job and become caring parents first to babies, toddlers (in their “terrible twos” ), pre-teens and their pets, teenagers and senior citizens. The couples volunteer for the show and then are moved into an apartment in Boise, Idaho.
They have to attend pre-natal classes as each “mother” wears a simulated “empathy” belly to prepare them for the arrival of their “baby.” They are under 24-hour supervision by nannies and the real parents who are stationed next door, watching via monitor, and able to step in at any time. Plus, one teen from each of the couples must start a job, ranging from working in a local vet’s office to a lumberyard, leaving the other alone as caregiver for the day.
This is a pretty cool concept for young couples who think that life is a piece of cake and that they can handle anything. Hopefully, they learn some good life lessons.
